Flo Rida - Mail on Sunday

Get the Low Down on Flo Rida

Mail on Sunday is the debut of Floridian hip hop artist Flo Rida and was released in March, 2008. The first single released was “Low” a club favorite and U.S. Billboard number 1 for an incredible 10 weeks. Collaborated with fellow Floridian R & B singer/songwriter T-Pain it is an ode to ladies with “big booties”. If you leave the uninspiring lyrics to one side and focus on the catchy chorus then you will see why this maintained its sales. The hook is the key in the latest array of long standing hits and substance is thin, or like Rihanna’s “umbrella” evaporated. But for an unadulterated booty shake “Low” ticks all the right boxes.

“Elevator”, another of several collaborations, though this time the hit master Timbaland is introduced and the stakes are raised in the beats department. A strong production of a urban style and Flo Rida’s flow is slick and well delivered. Once again its lyrics are thoroughly lacking in any insight but that doesn’t matter as much for this genre of track.

The latest in the string of high performers from Mail on Sunday is “In the Ayer” feat. Will. I. Am and with a sexy electro-pulse it hooks the track into gear. Maybe it is smart to work with good producers and they have lifted otherwise ordinary tracks to an above average level. As far as I am concerned it is not how you got to the finished product it’s the result. And these singles cut it when it comes to the club scene.

“Roll” with Sean Kingston is the other stand out and hopefully it will receive as much recognition as the others. The rest of the album however is unfortunately mediocre and “Still Missin” is just bad and should have been left off the album.

Overall put it on at the club and get low with all those that crave hooks, kicking hip hop beats peppered with slick rap by a solid performer. Mail on Sunday will not go down in the annuals as a classic but a very solid debut by Flo Rida and co.
