One Hump or Two

Alanis Chilled Out with “My Humps”

2006 was the first year in Alanis Morissette’s musical career that she had not had a single concert appearance performing any of her own material. She performed “Wunderkind” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in January the only time she appeared.

As an April Fools Day gag she performed a cover of “My Humps” posting the slow and mournful version on You Tube which received over 17 million hits to date. Fergie from the “Black Eyed Peas” saw the humor of it sending Morissette a buttocks shaped cake with a note attached praising the clip. Morissette wouldn’t comment on the clip for a long while waiting until just before the release of her latest album “Flavor’s of Entanglement”. She stated that the emotional toll of the day to day recording of the album had taken out of her needed to be released into something of a more lighter note. She wished she could do a simple song like "My Humps" in a conversation with Guy Sigsworth and the joke just took a life of its own when they started working on it.

The album was released in mid 2008 with plans to tour that album later that year. The first single of the album “Underneath” was a strong return for the American-Canadian songstress and the video was submitted into the 2007 Elevate Film Festival, the purpose of which is to raise the level of human consciousness on the earth.
