Hip-hop star Akon spoke with students in upstate New York about gun control and gang violence as part of his plea agreement following his guilty plea over tossing a teenage fan of stage at a June 2007 concert. Part of his deal is that he will complete 65 hours of anti-violence and anti-gun community service instead of serving a jail term.

The Mayor of Poughkeepsie John Tkazyik said that the forum held on Thursday would go towards the 65 hours Akon must complete in accordance with his sentence. There will also be a public service announcement about gun violence recorded by Akon which will be used by local radio stations.

Akon claims too of learnt his ways vowing never to throw teenagers offstage again. Maybe he could learn a thing from Chris Brown and keep your beatings from the publics view
