Pussycat Dolls Humble Beginnings Behind Them Now
Formed in 1995 The Pussycat Dolls, originally started out as a modern burlesque troupe but a successful decision to transform into a pop group paid dividends. They have come along way from their first public performance in 1995 performing hits of the 1950’s and 60’s dressed in vintage style pin-up costumes and lingerie at The Viper Room. They enjoyed moderate success appearing in a Playboy picture feature, Charlie’s Angels and appeared in “Pink’s” promotional video for the song ‘Trouble’.
Interest rose dramatically after the 2002 Maxim photo shoot in which Carmen Electra(formally the groups main performer) and Christina Aguilera were featured in the shot. It was then that the group was transformed into a pop group and signed by Interscope Records.
Not all the original cast members remained in the group, most notably Electra whom preferred to stay in Burlesque and formed ‘The Bombshell Babes, with other members of the group.
So in 2003 the line up of Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Kimberley Wyatt, Ashley Roberts, Melody Thornton, Kaya Jones and Jessica Sutta began their career as a pop act. On their debut album PCD, they teamed up with Snoop Dog, Will.I.Am and Timbaland and was an international hit with the singles ‘Stickwitu’, ’Beep’, ’Buttons’ and ’Wait a Minute’.And the Pussycat Dolls still are thriving today with the release of ‘Doll Domination’ including 2 more international hits ‘When I Grow Up’ and ‘I Hate This Part Right Here’ and fans adoring the once small time troupe that now dominate the pop world.
